17$ shipping... this is hardly "free". I paid about 44$ to go from home basic to home premium just to get this "free" upgrade and now it turns out I have to pay 17$ shipping... AWESOME!

Call and complain if it says that on your receipt/invoice.

    http://www.microsoft.com/windows/buy/offers/upgrade.aspx

"Qualifying PCs, offer details, and product delivery methods will vary by manufacturer, so check their sites for specifics."

    http://www.lenovo.com/us/en/windows7/index.html

"Customers are responsible for shipping + handling and any tax or duty fees unless otherwise notified."

the $17 covers media, processing, handling, shipping, and tax.   considering that hundreds of thousands (possibly millions) of systems could potentially sell requesting windows 7 upgrades, eating the cost would cost lenovo millions in losses.   the cost has to come from somewhere and unfortunately microsoft won't foot the bill.

Well, it's $24.26 to ship to Australia. Thankfully Vista Business was included in the price (well, it says "free", but I bet it's just included there somewhere), so I didn't have to pay extra to get the "free" upgrade to 7. I was surprised to find out the shipping charge as well, but not much choice there.

OTOH, I'd much happier if they just sent me the license key via normal mail (how much can that cost? a couple of dollars?) and I'd just download Windows 7 from MS' site. I can burn a DVD on my own :)
