No. Evading VAT and customs fees is almost certainly illegal. I don't think you'll find much help here on how to break the law.

I would never trust ANY mail forwarding businesses if i bought an expensive item like a Thinkpad.

If you are a student in Finland you can buy from Germany where they offer student discounts at good prices.

This is the best option. No additional taxes or fees when bought inside EU and those student prices are really good.

I'm curious, since I'm not experienced with VAT or custom's fees. What if someone from the EU came to america to visit, bought a thinkpad, and took it back with him? I know lots of people who used to do this from other counties in the world, and although you're supposed to declare item's upon entering they would just say that it's their laptop. I'm not suggesting this, and obviously it's only viable if you were coming to America anyways for work/pleasure. But that seems too obvious of a loophole, how do EU nations prevent that?

Pretty much every time I fly back to China, I bring one or two new laptops with me for relatives back there, and have never had any problems. It's ironic that the country that makes the bulk of the laptops we buy has much higher computer prices than the U.S.

@OP: I modified your title slightly, to make it a bit more readable...

That's the one thing that would work. You should pay the fees when you import the laptop but a little white lie "I already had it, when I started my trip" and forget the boxes in the hotelroom.

It's just bad luck if they catch you at the customs and see something brand new in a retail box in your bag :p Then you need to declare it.

    - ok1.de
    - campuspoint.de
    - uni-notebooks.de
    - lapstars.de

They all offer Lenovo laptops and are partner in the 'Lehre & Forschung Programm' which means you can get a substantial discount if you're a student. Lots of info can be found in this topic:

Any other acadamic shops in EU other than ok1.de that ship in Europe?

If you're looking for a refurbished Lenovo(in Europe), I would suggest you take a look at NBWN.de, they have lots and do ship to all European countries.

No, goto idealo.de and type in the model you are after and a list of Lenovo shops online will come up, if you goto some of the dealers you will see they offer student discounts for EU residents if you can prove with identification you are eligble for student discount.

Thinkpads are very expensive in Scandinavia as i live there myself.
