I have a IBM T42 laptop and have had it for only about 8 months now.

However, I have been getting too much junk on the harddrive so I want to clean it up by formatting the harddrive.

I have checked the Access IBM menus and, correct me if I am wrong, is the Windows XP Pro installation file on the harddrive, and I have to create Recovery CDs to get the file on CDs? I believe under the Windows license I can only create one set of these CDs? Am I right?

In other words, please briefly teach me the key steps (no need for the detailed smaller steps) to reformat my laptop. Is it something along the lines of:

    1) Create Recovery CDs, which include the Windows XP Pro installation files?

    2) Get the computer to go back to factory default settings (hence format).

depeds what you plane to do with your data. Generally ro recover from CD s or restoring to the factory setings (with access ibm) has the same result - you get your comp to the state as originally shipped from the factory (the way you recceived it 8 moths ago :) this will eare all your data.
I did it already - very easy and works fine.

Recovery CD s are must in case you change HD in your laptop.

So barring harddrive change or failure, I don't actually need to create Recovery CDs, right?

I can simply restart and press Access IBM and restore factory default etc all that jazz, right?

Yes, u r right. but make sure to backup your personal date before doing this.

Personally, I do not use ACCESS IBM to maitain my system, I use GHOST instead, howevr, this is totally another story.
