I know folks on this board have solved the audio over display port -> hdmi issue and I am excited to get my thinkpad and play around with it! How has the quality been for pushing 720p and 1080p video, particularly MKVs, to the HDTV? Any of you using MPC-HC?

I am sure it will be fine and there won't be input lag or anything but I am always paranoid. Just curious if there is any latency with DP to HDMI video quality? Heh.

I've used an ASUS 1015-PEM as an HTPC (overclocked of course) to my 40" Bravia Xbr6 and it worked fine with 720p content.

I'm 100% sure that the T420 with the i5 sandy bridges even if it does have an HD 3000, should be able to play 1080p without any hiccups whatsoever.

Most videos rely heavily on the power of the CPU and the i3/i5 should play it without any issues, even if its connected to a 52".

As a dedicated HTPC the T420 is a bit pricey, no? I'd much rather build my own ITX-based system or grabbing one from an OEM.

I put "HTPC" in quotes. :) It is not so much an HTPC. Just a laptop that I'd also like to use to play my movie rips on and push them to my 46" HDTV.
