    Try this:

I found a way to increase the sound coming from the speakers. Follow these steps.

    Click on:

    > Start

    > Control Panel

    > Lenovo HD Audio Manager

    > Advanced

    > Sound effects

    > Put a checkmark in the box next to Loudness Equalization

    > Environment: Living Room. I tried all the settings. This one is the best.

    > Equalizer: Vocal. I tried all the settings. This one is the best.

    > Karaoke: +0

It makes a signifanct difference. I don't have any problem with hearing sounds from the speakers.

I don't have this HD Audio Manager on my X220 but going to sounds and configuring the speakers, there's an option for sound equalization there and it's definitely louder!

I am trying to fix the low output through headphones, which is not working. I tried the above too (though I know that it is for hearing sounds through the speakers) but it did not work. Increasingly, I think the problem is with the Conexant sound card.

Yep, no HD Audio Manager on the x220. BTW Kevinla, our sound card is Conexant 20672. Driver is 8.32.18.0

I cannot see an option for 'sound equalisation', the crafter, but in sound/ speaker properties/ enhancements, you can select 'Loundness equalisation', amongst other options. Not sure it makes much difference though. Volume seems too low, imho.

Then again, maybe the hearing is going

OK, smart audio and using the sound mixer (Equalizer) all the way up to 14 did the trick and now the sound has been noticeably increased. Thank you so very much for getting some new idea's on how to solve this issue. :notworthy:

well, it helps to raise the bass frequencies, but less the mids and none of the top.
