    Actually many of the original Fn+Fx functions are meaningless for me: Fn+F2 system lock, functions the same as WIN+L; Fn+F4 sleep functions the same as you close the lid, Fn+F7 is the same as WIN+P in Windows 7 (display switch)...... By releasing and re-mapping these Fn+Fx settings, I got more convenient shortcuts.

    if anything goes wrong, you can easily delete the new registry value to restore the machine to the original state (or you can backup the registry before you try)

    Tested on my new x201s. Prerequisite: HotKey driver installed.

    Blue Button Remapping

    1, run regedit.exe
    2, pinpoint this path: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\IBM\TPHOTKEY\8001
    (if you clean installed your system, the "8001" key may be missing. if you don't see 8001 key, just create one by yourself, and then create a string value "File", the same as below)
    3, Under Key 8001, find the string value"File", double click it, change the value data to your desired .exe file path. For example, i changed it to "C:\Windows\notepad.exe", The ThinkVantage blue button is remapped to the notepad.

    ********************************************************** Fn+Fx Remapping:

    Under HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\IBM\TPHOTKEY\CLASS\01, you'll find a series of two digits Keys, from "01" to "1B", of which 01 means Fn+F1, 02 means Fn+F2, ..., 0B means Fn+F11, 0C means Fn+F12.

    Create a new string value named "File", value data is your desired executable file path. Then, you MUST create another string value named"Parameters", leave the value blank.

    In my case, I made Fn+F1 mapping to the calculator.

    Hopefully you like it.

    cool...but you know that's what Windows 7 taskbar is now for =P. Win+# opens up programs in your taskbar.

    yea this isn't new, vista has the same thing. i've been using it for several years, but i don't like to put too many icons on the task bar. i just left browser and email program icons on the task bar, and re-mapped other shortcuts with ThknkVantage key and Fn+Fx.

    That's very dependent on how your system is set up. For example, I don't want my computer to sleep when I close the lid, so I actually like the Fn+F4 combination. Others might have varying degrees of usefulness, depending on the operating system.

    But still interesting. Thanks.

    yeah that's true, it depends on personal preference. for me, if i have an alternative way then i reassign the fn+fx key to launch my most frequent programs:

    fn+f2= win+L (actually win+L is better because it saves you one extra mouse click)
    fn+f4, i use close the lid instead;
    fn+f5, i use the hard switch key instead;
    fn+f7 exactly the same as win+p (windows 7 only)
    fn+f8: i don't tweak my mouse setting very often. it can be found in the control panel
    fn+f9: i never used easy eject...
    fn+f12: i disabled hibernation (SSD configuration)
