Am i correct that the Fn+F7 is suppose to switch the display output?
When I hit Fn+F7, nothing "new" comes up on my screen. I don't have anything plugged into the VGA port, though. I was just playing around with it. Do I need something plugged into the VGA before it will toggle between the LCD screen and the VGA?
On my old Toshiba when I hit the respective Fn key it would come up with little icons representing a CRT, or CRT with laptop screen, or only laptop screen - and you would toggle through the various options.
I have done a clean install - does the presentation director need to be installed for this function to work?
I have installed the hotkey driver/software, and my other Fn keys work.
I have found the following information, but I am a little unclear if presentation director needs to be installed for this hot key to work?
Fn+F7
Apply a presentation scheme directly, with no need to start Presentation Director.
To disable this function and use the Fn+F7 key combination for switching a display output location, start Presentation Director, and change the settings.
_______________
Switch a display output location
-External monitor (CRT display)
-Computer display and external monitor (LCD + CRT display)
-Computer display (LCD)
Notes:
1. This function is not supported if different desktop images are displayed on the computer display and the external monitor (the Extend desktop function).
2. This function does not work while a DVD movie or a video clip is playing.
To enable this function, start Presentation Director, and change the Fn+F7 settings.
Note: Multiple users can log on to a single operating system by using different user IDs. Each user needs to change the settings.

No, you don't need to install presentation director, I rather use the Intel GMA utility. In my case, I connect the VGA cable to my T61 hooked up with a 32" LCD screen, press Fn+F7 once and the display signal is sent to the external LCD monitor, hit again the Fn+f7 combo and both screens use the same signal.
Alternatively you can use the ATi Control Panel function which does the same thing, you go to 'Screens' and choose the desired one.
