    Hi All,

I received my T61 a couple of days ago and I'm loving it mostly. I got the 9 cell battery and put the optional ultrabay battery in there too so I get a good 9 hours of battery life easy. It's much better than my last laptop which could barely squeeze out 2 hours.

The only issue I have is the placement of the Fn key where I'm used to having the Ctrl key. I always try doing a Ctrl+C and Ctrl+V to cut and paste but find it not doing anything. Then I realize I hit the wrong key...it will probably take a while to get used to it.

I think this is a pretty common complaint with laptops that do this and was wondering if there was anything out there that would let me map Fn+X, Fn+C, and Fn+V to cut, copy, and paste repectively? Does anybody know of a way to achieve this?

    Any help is appreciated!

One of the most common ThinkPad questions. :p

I don't think there is a software-related fix for it. You'd have to physically remap your keyboard wiring.

I have a Fujitsu S6210, which has the same keyboard layout. I am perfectly accustomed to it now. You'll get used to it ;)

I use keyboard shortcuts like crazy so I completely feel you. I can only hope I will get used to it but it's going to be tough. On top of that, when playing FPS games crouch is usually mapped to the ctrl key. I haven't tried yet but I imagine within most games you could map whatever to that key. Unfortunately that's not the case everywhere else.

Switching between my ThinkPad and my Toshiba keyboards could be considered sheer madness.

Not only are the Ctrl and Fn key positions swapped but the Windows key positions are in absolutely completely totally different locations at the opposite extremes of the keyboards. Plus, the Insert/Delete/Home/End/PgUp/PgDn key positions are also absolutely totally different as well.

As such I still adapted anyway so it doesn't bother me at all one bit when I switch between laptops.

I love that the function key is on that corner...it didn't take me long to get used to it at all. I'll tell you why i like it...it is the easiest key to find on the keyboard...for example it makes the function of turning on the thinklight in the dark fool proof so there's no stumbling around...it's the two corners of the keyboard...! Also it's like most standard desktop keyboards...most of them don't have Fn keys so it makes the transition better.

Nope, the Fn key is a special hardware that the OS does not recognize.

You could do what I did and swap the caps lock with the left ctrl, this way the hands won't ever have to leave the keyboard.
