I didn't create any recovery disk when I first got my computer. If I create them now will they be able to restore my computer to the factory state or the current state??

Also, my function keys are not functioning properly. The only keys that seem to work are the full screen magnifier, fn f4 (standby), num lock, brightness, think light, and play/pause stop media functions. Fn f5-f12 don't work, or f2 and f3. Any thoughts or suggestions?

    Thanks,
    Jeff

I'd try resinstalling the Hotkey Utility.

So no matter what I have done when I create the disks it will always restore it to factory defaults, Correct??

And installing the hotkey utility didn't help.

That is correct. The discs creates a copy of the hidden partition into recovery media and the hidden partition holds a factory image of your system.

Did you do a clean install or a downgrade?

I got it from Lenovo with XP downgrade already on the machine. And after I had used it for a while the Fn keys stopped working.

Well I installed Lenovo System Interface Driver but have absolutely no idea what it does. :D It installed successfully but I find nothing new on my computer. I'm just not sure what it is supposed to do.

I am having other problems and though it would be nice to restore the system to factory defaults, but...I CAN'T. Because I can't make the recovery disks. It just says:

    Create recovery disks
Big red X and is not installed
    Retry Cancel

This is very helpful because it won't tell me what is not installed!! It's just great! I think my computer hates Christmas! It's been having all kinds of problems telling me that this and that isn't installed and fn keys don't work and etc. Maybe it will die completely tomorrow on Christmas!! Just kidding.

Anyways and help would be greatly appreciated

    Weird.

You can try factory restoring your computer without the discs. Press the blue button upon startup at the ThinkPad logo. Then follow the on-screen prompts.

All right, well that worked and now I am factory restored with my settings working properly. My only problem is that when I ran the recovery disk setup it wrote data to one disk and as it was finishing it said that it couldn't work and I needed to insert a new disk when prompted. I didn't want to ruin another DVD so I didn't try it but do you think it would work next time??

You should be able to burn another disc now that you've factory restored.
