Ever heard of KeyTweak keyboard remapper? Works like a charm. I have functions of Left and Right Shift keys swapped for one of my music software applications.

As far as I know, keyboard remapping utilities fail to work with any Fn buttons.

Hmm, you are right. Just checked and Fn key is not part of the keymap, while Ctrl, Windows, and Alt are :(

They might as well do it. More options that don't hurt anyone are always useful.

Frankly, it's about time ThinkPads does this to ease the pain of transition from regular keyboard (say at the office) and ThinkPad and vice-versa, especially for touch-typists and those new to ThinkPads.

    I would go one further.

Make the size of the Fn and Ctrl keys the same so we can actually sway them.

Ctrl Fn for me...but should be able to get used to it pretty fast
Feels more natural for me since my desktop, other laptop, and netbook is that way :p

I agree. Ctrl must be in the bottom left or at least be able to be remapped.

The problem is that on a standard keyboard, ctrl is always the bottom left key. Even apple's fancy slim aluminum desktop keyboard has it there. But alas! The macbooks have the fn key at the bottom left.

This bugs the hell out of me. At home I use a desktop and a dell (that I picked specifically because of the location of the ctrl key). But at work, I use a macbook.

I do ctrl+c ctrl+v quite often and switching layouts definitely does not go well.

Remapping: The fn key can not be remapped because it is a Physical switch in the keyboard hardware. Holding FN and hitting an F6 key will physically re-route the circuit that's in the keyboard itself to produce a different keycode. No bios or key mapping will help.

Some have been annoyed at this enough to remove the FN key and glue a plastic extension to CTRL. I'm hoping not to go there.

Unfortunately, the 3 best notebook companies out there suffer from this unexcuseable flaw: Apple, Lenovo, and Asus. I've been forced into dell (which in all honesty, has treated me well) because of the simple location of a key. But if Lenovo does make this a bios switch, I'm getting one right away.

    Sorry for the rant.

It is a shame for Lenovo.
HP has this feature for years.

it's never a problem for me since i've been using thinkpad for years. But if it's the concern for most of the people they should swarp fn and ctrl and make hotkey for ThinkLight like Ctrl + Pgup than everyone happys . haha
    Just my thought tho
