This is good new for people who are concerned with the whole Fn/Ctrl key placement. I wish they did it retroactively, but maybe they had to change something in the keyboard to remap it in a BIOS setting. Better than nothing.

if they could change it in the old machines they would, i don't think it was just a simple software update issues, some of the Fn control is hardwired, so software update won't change anything.

But once you use your thinkpads everyday for couple of years, you won't mind it.

For me i find the other arrangement found on the laptop other than Thinkpads, to be uncomfortable. This is also true of many European car (i.e. Merc) having the control stalk for window wiper and turn signal on the other way around in Australia, but after you get use to it, it is no longer an issue.

I don't mind either way; and I expected it to be more difficult for older machines because it is hardwired as you mentioned.

Just pointing out that there will be more options for users who are concerned with this. I can adapt either way as you said.

Anyone know if this will include the latest current-gen computers, e.g. the T400s, and SL410/510 which seem to be newer design? What about the X200(s/t), and T/W 400/500? It seems a horrible waste if none of these are upgradeable.

current and previous models will not be updated.   only future models will be given the capability in the BIOS.
