I am 99% positive I have figured out why my t500 with vista32 bit will freeze up with a black screen after you leave it sit for a while with the lid closed.
In this mode, the laptop is on and appears to be working, but will not wake up to clicks, keyboard, or power button. The only thing you can do it hard reboot.
I thought it was the display driver, and after messing with it, that didnt fix it, then I thought it was turbo memory, after turning it off, that didnt fix it..
Finally, I got an error message one day that led me to belive it was a vista thing related to requesting a password on resume/wakeup..
(This caused me to start talking to people, and after talking to 4 different people, that all use vista on different makes of laptops and have the same black screen problems that I did, I have for sure decided it is a vista thing and not a thinkpad problem.)
After forcing my machine to ask for a password on resume/wakeup from standby, I have not had one single black screen problem on my t500.
Maybe this will help someone out!
