The N100? What the heck... why not one of the thinkpad models?

At least they are moving to them now, and not waiting until the next model line like what they have usually done in the past. Like the M to Core Duo transition.

You would think Lenovo would transition to Core 2 Duo a little faster considering that others like Dell and HP have been shipping them for a few weeks now.

    dietcokefiend,

Although I wish they first notebook to have the new processor was the T60 (because as soon as it does I'm buying one), it does show that the ThinkPad series is not far behind. As my dad put it, they are using the N series as a test rat.

Don't worry, it's coming. They can't stop the inevitable.

Well, I know it will come, it just seems odd that the latest technology would come in the cheaper laptop line first. Its not like they don't know it works or anything either. Its basically drop in compatible.

Not that I am interested in the Thinkpad line right now for a while. Aiming to get about 2-3 years from my C100 :p

I don't know how the purchasing works, but maybe they have to sell off more of their core duos before moving on to selling the 2's. They don't sell as much volume as dell and the others.

True, that could come into play. Maybe they have set guidelines were there can only be like 5-10% of stock left over, or a max period of time before introducing a new product line to prevent waste.

That or they can just offer SUPER DISCOUNTS... muahahahahaha :p

If Dell and HP have only been shipping the Core 2 Duo for one week; hardly makes the Thinkpad slow to respond to the newest chips. Dell is always first to the marketplace and worst with customer service, reliability and add on software on new computers.

Of course the thinkpads will have a Core 2 duo chip. If HP and Dell had the Core 2 Duo out for 1-2 months, that would be a problem.

At the end of this month they will announce the new tablet, but won't ship until December. Core 2 Duos will also be announced in October, but not sure when they will ship.

They've been shipping for a few weeks now from Dell and HP. I already have one of the dv2000t's with a T7200 in it and a Dell E1505 that will be delivered tommorrow with a T7200. I wouldn't say that they are slow to respond so much but if they don't have them available by October then i would say they are definitely behind. All this is is a CPU upgrade so reliability and software have no impact. It's as simple as dropping the new chip into the socket. And although i know IBM Lenovo has far better tech support, i would rather deal with Dell or HP customer service any day of the week. I can get just about anything i need sent out to me quickly from Dell and usually for free if it's like the restore CD's and driver CD's and stuff like that. I also have 21 days with ither company to return the laptop if i'm not satisfied and they cover return shipping cost and there is no restocking fee that gets imposed. With Lenovo you will probably have to pay return shipping and if there isn't something actually wrong with the laptop then you may get hit with a 15% restocking fee. I also find that Dell is pretty quick with building the systems and getting them shipped out. I've heard that Lenovo can be pretty spotty and slow at times with getting the system shipped.

someone correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe you get 30 days to try it if you buy from Lenovo. Plus, the people on the phone speak English (or whatever the native language is in the country you are calling from).

You are right about the massive shipping delays though.

so what is the return period now? that was about the only reason to buy straight from Lenovo instead of another reseller.

They lowered the return window, seemed to have added a restocking fee (not sure fully), and returns don't apply to opened products.
