Not sure if this is a Thinkpad issue, but my z61t has always (for the whole 3 weeks I've owned it) had intermittent freezes when I'm using Firefox. Every now and then pretty randomly a page won't load (but works once I hit refesh), or a page I'm on won't respond, or a download won't start, etc. This lasts 20-30 seconds then all is fine.

I only think it MIGHT be an issue with my laptop (i.e. perhaps from the installed Lenovo software - I'm running all the AV and Firewall stuff that was pre-loaded) since no other machines on my home network have this issue with firefox and it happens regardless of the WLAN I connect to. I know I need to do a lot more troubleshooting (wired vs wireless, IE vs Firefox, etc.) but I thought I'd throw the general question out and see if anyone had any thoughts.

    Thanks.

I would not trust Norton in any case, so it may be to your benifit to replace it with AVG Free, but I don't see how that could be your problem. Could it have something to do with the Google toolbar?

I have the same exact problem with my T60. I figured it was just the network here at school being slow, but now that I read this, I think it is a Thinkpad issue. I have uninstalled Norton, and it makes no difference.

Glad I'm not the only one. Zeus - why do you think it might be the Google toolbar? I haven't read anything about that before...

I'll check IE, but the slowdowns in Firefox just popup so randomly, it's hard for me to be objective about it...

I don't have any problem using firefox 2.0.0.1 on my new T60. In order to run firefox smoothly you need to install few more softwares (like flash player, shockware) called plug-ins. Have you downloaded yet? if not click the links below:
    https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/plugins/

Also install newer version of quick time 7.1.3 that comes along with iTunes free download at:
    http://www.apple.com/itunes/download/

Before you install plug-ins, I suggest you to uninstall your exising firefox and re-install the fresh one from here:
    http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/firefox/

I also suggest you to download latest windows updates from microsoft. You may also wish to download Internet Explorer 7.0.5730 (to be come along with windows vista) which is more safe and secured than ever before.

Very simple, when you have many pages open,it means that the firefox cache is becoming bigger, and sometimes it's horribly fragmented, run the windows defrag utility and count the number of fragments (sometimes it's over 100).
For a quick solution, clear the cache.
If you want to prevent this from happening, clear the cache, and defrag,I hope this makes it better.

have you upgrade ram on your own recently? I don't have any problem with my thinkpad but constantly in my desktop even for internet explorer. Mine was 1.5 gb ram and ever since I took out the 512 mb module, I never have any problem.

Try using other programs for internet if it still have same problems.

Come to think of it - forums.notebookreview.com - is taking a long time. Just opened a few new Firefox windows and it seems to happen each time. Or maybe I'm just imagining things. If it was a plugin (or several) wouldn't a get a notification to download or upgrade them?

try to defrag your system once in a while...

or clear your cookies first... then visit all those websites you go to to have your cookies back again... :)

    uninstall norton!

You can decrease the cache size under Tools - Options - Advanced - Network. Sorry, I don't know if this makes a difference but it's worth a try. I have my Firefox cache set to 5 MB.

Come to think of it, Java might be another cause of your slowdowns. I suggest you install the QuickJava extension from quickjavaplugin.blogspot.com. I usually have Java disabled and only turn it on when needed, which is easy with QuickJava.
