I have a thinkpad with a fingerprint reader on it and haven't used it much because it did not read consistently. Some times it would read great and other times it would fail every time I tried. I talked to Lenovo and after I upgraded the software version, I still had the same issues. They told me I would probably have to have the palm rest replaced with a new reader.

Something didn't seem right, some days it would scan perfectly and others not. I work with a fingerprint machine at work that uses a similar glass lensed reader, but much larger. In order to get good prints on our machine we always have the person printed rub a thin coat of light oil on their hands for moisture (we use Cornhuskers oil). I felt stupid for not thinking of this in the first place so I licked my finger and got a perfect read. As long as my scanning finger was moist I got a good read, but once I did it a few times in a row and it started to dry it was starting to give bad scans, but if I dampened my finger again it was 100% good.

So, if you have issues with your reader give it a try.

Thanks for your advice, I'll wash my hands b4 I sign in every time.

Just curious, the fingerprint reads "toe print" too right, cuz my toe is always moist......

What I do when my finger is dry is place my finger close to my mouth and blow warm air at it. It works like a charm :).

As long as you do it slowly it will read your print, also the bottom tip of your finger should rest on the small dimple. If you still have trouble there is a tutorial on how to scan your fingers.

u can also set in the fingerprint config to convient instead of secure so that it is less sensitive

Good advice. It can be really frustrating trying to use the reader to log in and having it miss two or three times in a row.

Now I just have to wait for my T60 to arrive. :D
