So when I got this T400, I decided to upgrade from the 80gb drive with 2gb of ram and Vista Home Premium, to a 320gb 7200rpm with 4gb of ram and Vista Ultimate x64.

I've noticed since the clean install that occasionally, my fingerprint reader just stops working. It'll work fine at first at boot, but after maybe 5-6 swipes it'll just stop working. When I swipe my finger, nothing happens. It doesn't pop up the screen showing a Match or No Match, and I don't see any signs of activity.

The thing is, that 320gb hard drive died on me last week, and while waiting for the replacement to come back, I had to go back to the original Lenovo install on the 80gb. And on that install, it works perfectly. It never stops working no matter how many times I log out and log back in.

I have disabled Windows turning the device off to save power in Device Manager but I can't think of anything else that might be the cause of it. I'm running the latest software and everything. Any ideas?

Apparently Lenovo System Update wasn't listing the latest version of the software, so I manually installed it from Lenovo's site and hopefully it'll work fine now.

I have had a similar but worse problem, where mine started with not working except at first boot. Now when I boot it says "Please wait" at the point just before the fingerprint reader option should show up. I had to go in to safe mode and disable the fingerprint software from the boot lists in MSCONFIG but it only fixed things completely (back to normal boot speed) when I uninstalled the fingerprint software entirely.

I tried reinstalling it through system update, but I got the same problem. If there's an updated version on the Lenovo site I don't see one for 64 bit Windows Vista, I only see the 32 bit version of the software.
