    Greetings all,

My W520 arrived a short while ago, and I have been going through the motions of installing my 80GB Intel 310 mSATA, bumping the RAM up to 16GB, and clean installing Windows 7 onto the SSD. I have selected UEFI booting only, and have used GPT for both the SSD and the original 500GB hard drive. It is now booting extraordinarily fast :)

Having used the ThinkVantage System Update program I believe that I now have everything back up and running - but I cannot get the Fingerprint software (v 5.9.4) to see the fingerprint sensor. The sensor appears in Device Manager as 'TouchChip Fingerprint Coprocessor (WBF advanced mode)', and is reported as working properly. I believe the hardware works as it was fine with the Windows installation before I re-installed.

It's enabled in the BIOS, and I've searched in SWTOOLS and on the Lenovo site for any other drivers I'm missing.

If anyone has any ideas on why this is not yet working I'd be very grateful.
    Best. Dave

I took the same steps you did and mine is working. Occasionally that is true but at least it is occasionally working.

    Here is the location: Port_#0003.Hub_#0003
    and driver: 1.4.0.275

Check your power management also as there is a switch to turn off the FP reader to save power.

How very odd. Mine shows the same location, and the same driver number. Manufacturer is shown as UPEK. And yet the software reports 'Cannot enrol user' with 3 notes in the 'Details' tab:

    E7210005 - Cannot enrol user
    E7210005 - Cannot update passport
E7210005 - Cannot find fingerprint sensor device

I've un-ticked the option to allow Windows to turn off the device, and cannot find any other power settings for the FP reader. Is there something I've missed?

    Many thanks

    Dave

That's a great help thanks very much. Just to summarise for the help of future Googlers...

As you say the UEFI is not compatible with the built in fingerprint reader. The reader is 'seen' by the operating system but cannot be made ready to take a fingerprint. It therefore gives an error E7210005.

Uninstalling the included fingerprint software and installing the UPEK software as linked has fixed it on my machine until the UEFI is updated to work nicely with the built in reader.

    Thanks again. Dave
