The fingerprint reader in my R61 is not working properly. It works sometimes and sometimes it does not. I reinstalled thinkvantage client security and fingerprint software 5.6. It does not solve the issue. Any suggestions to fix this??

    Anybody else facing this?? thanks.

By not working properly I'm assuming you mean you get quite a fair share of failed reads?
While mine isn't a R61 I had that issue also but after updating with the latest bios the reader has been working great so far. So I suggest if you haven't yet, check for and install the latest bios update if any. That might help fix the issue you're having.

I updated the BIOS, still the issue exists. when I lock the computer, finger print reader is not working completely, no read errors. when I try to login using finger print reader after restarting the system, it says short swipe . The weird thing is fingerprint tutorial works and shows the scanned finger print, whereas the fingerprint test in the control panel does not show the scanned finger print...not sure this is an s/w issue or h/w issue

    Hi vpa!

I also have a new R61. At first the fingerprint reader worked perfectly, but then -- upon booting up -- it frequently had a hard time recognzing my fingers. Well, I remembered that I had seen a thread on fingerprint readers that suggested licking one's finger, or moistening it slightly. This seemed a rather odd suggestion. I haven't the slightest idea why this should make a difference, and I would probably have guessed that it would make things worse. But I tried it, and it really makes a big difference for my R61. You might try it and see if it works for yours.

It's probably because you don't have enough moisture in your fingers to register the electrostatic charge it needs.
