How do you make it so you need to use the fingerprint reader to get into stuff. Specifically a folder? Is it possible to assign fingerprint protection to whatever you want?

That's correct. The software for fingerprint reader is for "passwords".

What I'm asking though. Is how do I assign the fingerprint reader for certain things?

well you can password protect folders can't you? So why not assign fingerprint enable for the folder?

is there somewhere you can access the fingerprint software to assign and unassign it to different things?

Not sure myswelf but if it isn't in the password manager or fingerprint reader utility the answer is probably no.

You can password protect files with Word. That's about it.

    Check this out.

It's called "Lenovo Security Solution FP".
I dug it out from some Chinese websites but couldn't find it from Lenovo's English site, weird....

Anyway, those guys claimed that it is much more powerful than the default fingerprint software...(for example, using the fp to login your msn, or protecting a folder)

I have no idea, since it is only available for the Thinkpads with an UPEK fingerprint reader, including T43、T60、T61、T400S、X60、X61, but NOT including X200、X200S、X200T、R400、R500、T400、T500、W500、W700、W700DS...

Oh, yes, and the supported OS: XP, Vista x86/x64, Windows7x86/x64.

    :(

Which version and edition of Windows are you using? If you want to protect just the folder and it's contents, consider EFS. If you have anything beyond Home, then this functionality is built in. If you use the finger print input to login, this effectively is using the same system indirectly because EFS relies on your login/password to encrypt. It also means access and modification is seamless
