    Hello,

I want to ask if I do something wrong, or how to solve this problem.
I have W520, with SSD in the main bay and HDD in ultrabay.
I have set supervisor, power-on, hdd1 and hdd2 passwords. Also windows password.
    I have enrolled 4 fingerprints.
I set in the fingerprint software that passwords are filled via one fingerprint.

When I powered-on the computer, I enrolled a finger, lenovo said "accpeted" and I had to put all power-on, hdd1 and hdd2 passwords manually. Since then it worked next time as is should automatically. SInce I have 4 fingerprints, I had to do this process for each finger, so 4 times, but I get it working.

But I am unable to do this on my external lenovo reader when docked. It allways says "accpeted" during boot, and then I have to write them manually. This is EXTREMELY annoying, because when docked, USB keyboard doesn't work either, and I have to go to my machine, open it, input 3 long passwords, and then close the lid fast.

Can you please help me, what to do? Where and how are fingerprints stored? I have also eSata drive and I want to set hdd password, if I will have go through every fingerprint again...

    thank you.

P.S.: I had similar problem with my previous T60. On external fingerprint everything worked, but on internal sometimes it did not filled these passwords and i had to pull out and in the battery. Sadly it is not working on W520.

As far as where the prints are stored...On a lot of readers including the one in my X220, they are actually stored on a chip. This is why people often get enrollment problems when they dont unenroll prints before removing or reinstalling fingerprint software, and have to jump through some hoops to delete em.

As far as different fingerprints for each system level password...I dont get that one. You should be able to have separate passwords for each aspect but use the same finger to enter them. A separate print for each password does not help anything security wise. If it is a machine that needs more security then a single basic print will give you, you shouldnt be using fingerprint authentication to begin with IMO.

Is the face recognition safe enough? And can it be used the same places the fingerprint can?

    This is a misunderstanding.
I don't want to have each password for a different fingerprint.
    The sequence is this:
power on computer > ask for a fingerprint > I enroll one of my finger that is accpeted > power-on password is filed automatically > HDD1 password is filled automatically > HDD2 password is filled automatically > windows password is filled automatically > windows is ready.

The problem is, that passwords are not filled automatically, but I have to write them manually. Mine sequence is this:
power on computer > ask for a fingerprint > I enroll one of my finger that is accpeted > I have to write power-on password >I have to write HDD1 password > I have to write HDD2 password > windows password is filled automatically > windows is ready.

Once I went through this process, then it works as expected (example 1). BUT I had to do this for each of my fingers. My passwords are very long and complicated, and it is a pain to do.

OK, that was my internal fingerprint.

With my external, I cannot do this automatic filling at all. I have to fill them manually. I want to be done automatically as expected.

    PS.:
sorry but this is a bit vague :D On a which chip and where?

The security chip on the motherboard. AFAIK, this should be the "Trusted Platform Module 1.2" under Security Devices in Device Manager.

Based on Lenovo answer to this issue fingerprints are stored in the reader itself.
