Never used the thing, but if i get the computer stolen with the fingerprint password activated, will someone be able to reset the fingerprint password to gain access to my stuff or will they have to reformat the hard drive? better, will the computer be completely useless.

I don't know if it's just my experience or if there's some settings I need to change but I've never relied on windows keeping my files safe if my laptop was stolen.

I swap my hard drives quite often and place some of my active hard drives into an external enclosure. When simply using the drive via USB, pretty much all the files show up; no password is required to access them.

There's only a couple folders like my documents that says are locked but even those can be easily undone by resetting permissions.

Unless there are some secret settings in windows (xp or vista) probably bitlocker actually (Vista)

now that I think about it. I've just never really played around with things like that.

Fingerprint software recognise my fingers correctly, and I activated power on. This things works but, when I log on, in windows screen appears the finger option and the windows password. I want to initialise without enter my password. Thanks

Your question has been asked many times if you do a search.

It's not a good idea (or possible it seems) to have fingerprint login anyway. It also may be that the fingerprint scanner simply enters in your password to login.

If you're that concerned with it, have a random password generator create a strong password for you and set it so even you don't know the password.

I wouldn't really recommend that though.

But it's as I said, unless you use some form of hard drive encryption, the windows password will not stop someone from accessing your data which did seem to be your main concern.
