Setting up my new z61m. Still on the learning curve.

My fingerprint reader looks to be DOA. Is there a light or an LED that comes on when it is activated? I load the training software and get as far as trying to swipe my fingerprints. Nothing happsns. Also tried doing this as an administrator. Still nothing.

Bit by the tvt_gina.dll login problem. Is there an easy way of dealing wtih this? Tried adjusting Access Connections (didn't work). Haven't gone into the registry yet. This is definitely a Lenovo problem and we should not have to deal wth it.

Where are the instructions for burning a recovery CD? Not sure if I need to load my own CD burning program (stupid question..someone discussed doing this with Nero on another thread so I guess you need to supply your own?)

I am also debating installing my own copy of XP Pro and manually installing Thinkpad utilities. I guess that the new Vista upgrade is not particular about it must load over a copy of XP that started out at Lenovo?

    Thanks

1.) There is no LED/light that comes on when using a fingerprint reader, at least on the T60. You may have a driver/utility issue. I would check lenovo's support page and try reinstalling.
    2.) Dunno
3.) Start>programs>thinkvantage--it's in there somewhere. (sorry, I'm not on my thinkpad right now. You'll simply need some CD/DVD's--you will not need Nero to use the Lenovo method, you will if you decide to "slipstream" or use an alternative method of creating a recovery CD.
4.) You could do that, Vista won't care what it's installed on AFAIK.

    Good luck!
