I have finally decided to pull the trigger and buy the T60 after about 8 months of often painful researching and sole searching.

I would like to buy in Canada but the prices and configs are ****e (from what I have seen) compared to the states. Since I am flying down there on business next month anyways I will buy online and ship to where I will be going.

I have been configuring on the Lenovo US website and here is where I am at so far:

    Thinkpad T60 2613CTO
    Intel® Core™ 2 Duo processor T7400 (2.16GHz, 4MB L2, 667MHz FSB)
Genuine Windows XP Professional [Lenovo recommended]
    14.1 SXGA+ TFT
    ATI Mobility Radeon X1400 128MB
    512 MB PC2-5300 SDRAM DDR2 667MHz SODIMM Memory (1 DIMM)
    * will upgrade to 2GB in April while in Hong Kong. Much cheaper than buying online here.
    Integrated fingerprint reader
    60GB Hard Disk Drive, 5400rpm
    * will upgrade to 100GB x 7200RPM in April while in Hong Kong and sell off the other as I already have a Lacie portable 120GB HD. Much cheaper than buying online here.
CD-RW/DVD-ROM Combo 24X/24X/24X/8X Max, Ultrabay Slim
    ThinkPad 11a/b/g Wi-Fi wireless LAN Mini-PCIe US/EMEA/LA/ANZ
    * will call for the 11n!
    9 cell Li-Ion Battery

This is as far as I have gotten. I have budgeted for 2000USD and am at 1678USD now + the Hong Kong purchases which will be around 150USD after selling of uneeded parts I figure. So I still have 170USD to spend (not including Software upgrade and warranties as I consider these as seperate purchases).

The rest of the configs I am confused about as I don't know what software would be best for me. I just use word, excel, powerpoint and need to show 3D drawings and some possible renderings if I ever learn how. Have new business and am looking to future proof as much as possible so that I can grow into what my computer has already on it.

So which of the three here would you go with? or would it be better to also purchase this in Hong Kong? (I know many members here have purchased product in Hong Kong so that is why I ask):

Microsoft Office 2003 Basic [add $129.00]
Microsoft Office 2003 Small Business Edition [add $229.00]
Microsoft Office 2003 Professional [add $329.00]

The next thing is the warranties. I need a 3 year INTERNATIONAL warranty as I spend most of my time in China and Hong Kong. If my notebook goes haywire I can't return it to the states must get it fixed in Hong Kong.

Nothing is mentioned about this though it just states:

3 Year Depot Upgrade with 3 Year ThinkPad Protection [add $299.00] [Lenovo recommended]

So in recap what would you do with the extra 170USD and can you offer advise on the software and warranties.

As well am I missing any details of importance with my new laptop considering I am using it in China and not North America? Anything in addition I should look at for this?

    Thanks guys

    Joe

Let me be more specific. I am looking at either MS Office Small Business Editon or Professional. When doing the config they have listings for these on the first page and the second. The thing is the second page lists these programs for $200 more than on the first page.

    What am I missing???
