Hey all I finally placed my order for a T61p just about 2 hours ago (was actually doing school work till now for once lol). It came out to be $2700 with shipping.
Here are my specs: (How did I do?)
Vista Business 64
Dual Core 2.6ghz
200GB HDD,7200RPM
4gb RAM
1gb Turbo Memory
DVD REC.8XMAXDual Layer
With the 4 year protection plan

Nice! Loaded that bad boy up
-
Yea once I get it I'll load it up with programs as well
-
I agree on everything except the price Lenovo charges for that RAM & HD is ridiculous. I paid approximately $200 USD for 4GB of RAM for my T61P, how much did you pay?
If your comfortable installing the RAM yourself and don't mind the RAM being under a lifetime warranty from another company I'd highly suggest purchasing the RAM from Newegg and save yourself some money.
For the HD, same concept as above. Most good HD's come with a five year warranty and you would save boatloads. You could get a faster, identical RPM HD for only $180 USD. Installation of a HD is just as easy as the RAM.
I wouldn't have recommended the Turbo Memory, often times it causes more problems than its worth. Not to mention the performance gain is so small its not worth the cost or the hassle.
If your comfortable with installing the HD and RAM yourself, want to save some money and are comfortable with going to another company to process the warranty on the HD and RAM you would save around $500 USD by just doing what I suggested above. -
I'm fine with all of that. So you think that Turbo Memory wasn't worth at all? Also, if I see problems could I stop the Turbo Memory? Is it a separate piece in the computer?
-
As far as stopping the turbo memory I'm not sure, as I've never used it. Someone should stop by and help ya.
I believe it is a seperate add-on to the mobo, but it could be soldered on. (It comes in both add-on and soldered variations) Someone should stop by and help ya. -
One thing to keep in mind is that the turnaround on the failed Lenovo parts will be 1-2 days so if you do get aftermarket parts make sure its comparable.
The new driver for the Turbo memory stopped the BSOD issue. Some people use the turbo memory for ready drive only and an SD card for ready boost. There have been mixed reviews on the technology, but some people swear by it.
I think the turbo memory is like 50 bucks so you would brobably save more by going aftermarket on the HDD or ram.
The Turbo ram is a seperate card. -
Thats one baller laptop . Now the Hard Part Waiting.... Have fun with that. Don't go crazy if it takes too long
-
Yea it said about 1-2 weeks, but I've read that Lenovo has a habit of delaying shipping. I guess I'll just have to wait and see. As for the Turbo Memory I think I'll stick it out and see what happens. Isn't it just like a jump drive?
-
Once you get up to 4GB of RAM though, the performance increase is 2-3% at best. -
Aaah I see...Ok then, I guess I'll take that off
-
Congrats Nero, enjoy!
-
Thanks! And I definitely will enjoy!

I'd cancel and reorder with base RAM and hard drive. You can get the RAM and HDD significantly cheaper aftermarket, like $180 for the drive and $130-$150 for the RAM. Also, remember that Vista64 is going to have significantly fewer drivers than 32bit, and some programs won't even work on 64 (iTunes is one).
-
Yea but then I loose 1gb of RAM which isn't much at all. My question is if i have the 64bit can I downgrade to the 32bit without extra CD's or paying for it?
-
No. You can create recovery media for your current Windows and then downgrade to 32bit on your own.
-
Ok, so either way it is possible as long as I create a recovery CD and then downgrade. Just making sure.
-
Your other option would be to re-order with a single 2GB module, but that's close to $200 itself. 4GB is $450 or so. You can order RAM from third parties for ~$70 per 2GB module or ~$150 for the pair -- cheaper than you could even upgrade to a single 2GB module. Sell the 1GB on eBay and take that and your ~$300 savings to the bank (or towards the purchase of your next laptop )
-
LaptopGuru I see that you have 4gb RAM with Vista 32bit. Whats the point if you can only use 3gb?

Aaaah I see. I think I'll just stick with it because all of my program are compatible with the 64 bit version. I have a question though, I have some games that I like to play, ex: Starcraft, Age of Empires 2, and FF7. My question is if there is any website that I can go to to see if these games are compatible with the 64bit version?
Finally ordered me one!!!
