I wanted to start a new thread for all of us who went through hell with Lenovo trying to get our Z-series. Misery loves company, so thanks for all those helpful posts over the last two months. Not that they made the wait seem shorter, but at least we knew we all weren't alone.

If anyone wants to post their own info (as below), feel free.

    Machine: z61t (944D9U)
    Ordered: 11/08/06
    Received: 12/26/06

I've been using it for a week and am very happy with it. It's an awesome system, that's for sure, but was it worth the 7 week wait? Hmmm...tough to tell. Like I said, it's really, REALLY nice, but I don't think anything is worth that long of a wait. I ordered is b/c it had JUST what I wanted, so for that, I'm not disappointed at all and once my bitterness over the order/shipping process fades, I'll be much happier, I'm sure.

It's still nice and shiny (really liking the titanium) and I haven't loaded it up with all my installed programs so what's not to love. No major problems so far and there's not much I'd change with it. I considered cleaning up the install or doing a whole restore and reinstall to remove some of the bloatware and thin the processes, but opted against it for now just so I can put it through its paces.

I thought I saw some posts recently about some good "out of the box" techniques to test (dead pixels, etc.) and clean up a new machine for max performance. Anyone care to post the links to them if they have them handy? Thanks. Wondering how much of the ThinkVantage stuff I need or what impact it's having on my performance (2GB RAM).

Oh, and I did eventually get the 10% credit the complaint rep promised me, it was processed separate from the invoice for the system and showed up on my credit card statement a few days later.

I ordered mine early on 11/9 and received mine 12/20. I like it, but its tough to say if it was worth a 42 day wait ...

I'm about to wipe mine and reinstall Vista (I did an upgrade to see what would happen, and things that aren't so great did).

Ordered mine 11/17 and was shipped on 12/19. Finally received it on 12/26. I am very happy with this laptop...it is by far better than my previous Dell, Toshiba and Sony ones :)

    Model: Z61m (9450-G6U)
    Ordered: 11/17/06
    Received: 12/26/06
Core 2 Duo T7200 (2 GHz), 2 GB RAM, 100 GB HDD, ThinkPad a/b/g wireless, Bluetooth, WSXGA+, ATI X1400, Titanium lid (love this!)

First thing I did was to create the Recovery DVD discs and then wipe clean and install Windows Vista Business edition. Everything works (using the drivers released by Lenovo) except the Fingerprint reader.

Ordered my z61t (9440D9U) on 10/30 got it 12/20. With pricematch and incompetence discount came out to a resonable $1400. So far I'm loving it. Very quick and built well (I'm lucky that I haven't seen any of the loose trim and unsticky stickers others have reported).

Most of the ThinkVantage software doesn't have a vista equivilant. So, I think what he meant was the drivers released so far work. Many of the Lenovo drivers that are for XP install, but either do nothing or cause issues.

Ive had my z61t for over a week now and its great. however on the left side is this thin piece which makes up the left speaker. It is kind of loose and juts out in one section, so i just press down firmly to get it back to even on the laptop surface. its not that BIG of a deal, but since ive had it for less than 30 days what would u guys do. i think i would need a whole new shell which means another month of waiting, any advice?

I did get my z61t 9440 d9u on 12/18 (ordered 11/10) via express shipping without me having asked for anything. I'm completely satisfied with everything except the shipping delay and especially the misinformation surrounding it. Seriously hope there is no need for warranty service, because I fear the worst from Lenovo CS for sure.

I only wish I had ordered 2. I got dvd-writer, 1.5g ram, 100GB HD, WXGA+ for $1318. Now my spouse wants one and the price is $1569!

Is this the peice next to the PCMIA slot? Mine juts, flexes a bit too but I'm not sending it back. I'll live with it.

Honestly, I've taken it apart the palm rest because of my RAM issue and I don't see how its suppose to attach so its tight against it.

    Anon,

Its on the left side of the notebook...to the left of the vga port. (above the metal fan duct). Its the speaker piece that is affixed onto the main shell. Its not that big of a deal.

Ah, nevermind then mines on the other end of that side. Anyone else with a Z61m have the peice for the I/O Ports stick out by the Firewire and PCMCIA slot?

My case is rock solid, the only "slight" imperfection (or maybe it's not) is in the middle right above the touchpoint mouse buttons, below the Space key. It looks like the case is raised or flexed up a little bit. Not a problem at all, just something I noticed. Anyone else have this no their z61t? Maybe it's intentional?

Actually, the ThinkVantage software does work...There's beta versions out there. The FingerPrint software 5.6 also works. The only thing that does not seem to work is Client Security Solutions 8.0 - had to uninstall it. Here's what works under Vista:

    - All the Beta drivers
    - including Amtel TPM
    - Fingerprint reader
    - Think Vantage software
    - including Message Center
    - Presentation Director
    - Access Connections
    - Wireless On/Off application (forget the name of this one)
    - Power Manager
    - On screen display (volume, brightness, etc.)

I now use finger print to logon to Windows. As mentioned, Client Security Solution 8.0 causes stability issues. Please do not use. ATI driver released by Lenovo has caused stability issues resuming from Standby. Upgraded to the drivers released by ATI themselves. Will see how those work :)

All of the above on Windows Vista Business Edition (RTM version)...

    Cheers,
    Prabal

I ordered my first Z61t (9440D9U) on 12/11/06 and received it on 12/27/06. It was not bad at all as i hear a lot of people waited for it over a month... I was lucky. :D

But the Z61t had some really minor issues of loose parts like some of you say so I decided to return it - I know I am picky. They gave me 10 days to return it and I will ship it back to them tomorrow (01/11/07) AND "really luckily" my new Z61t is shipped and will be delivered tomorrow (re-oredered on 01/02/07)!!! Maybe they are actually working on improving their customer service???
