    What I bought:

    EPP ThinkPad T42 1.8G 512MB 60GB Microsoft® Windows® XP Professional 2378REU 1 $1,899.00
    2 512MB PC2700 CL2.5 DDR SDRAM S 31P9832 1 $160.65
    3 3YR ONSITE & TPPRO FROM 1YR EZ YNTPO13 1 $293.30
4 ThinkPad Multi-Burner Ultrabay Slim Drive (IBM Think Express Program) 73P3294 1 $317.80
    5 IBM TrackPoint Cap Collection 73P2698 2 $18.18

Any opinonions on my accesories or notebook choice?

My first choice was the T42p 2.0ghz 1gb 60gb DVD Burner KXU for $2799 but it's out of stock and has a really high resolution (UXGA). It has a 9 cell battery, dvd burner, 128ati GL, 1gb stick, 2.0ghz, bluetooth more than the REU.

I might cancle the DVD and/or the order hmm still deciding. They said I can cancle untill it's ready to ship which won't be for a while since it's backordered and it'll take them 2 biz days just to get back to me.

What do you think I shoudl do? Prices CDN btw

Well, it'll sure beat the Dell you have as an avatar[ :)]
If I were you...but I'm not...I would drop the DVD multi-burner from the notebook, the reason is that they are way over priced. Are you really going to need to burn DVDs that often? If so I would just get an external DVD burner that runs off your USB port, you can get some that even support dual layer(9GB) for about $150; and that way you can move the burner to whatever machine you like.

I also would drop the 3yr extended warranty, if your thinkpad last through the 1st year the odds are very high it will last several more. Your much more likely to drop it, spill something into it, or lose/have it stolen than for it to just break on it's own and all those things I just mentioned are not covered by the extended warranty. I just saying it's something that there is a very slim chance of you using and easy money in their back pocket. Las Vegas would love to have such odds on a bet[ :)]
I would look into taking the money you sve by not buying the extened warranty and get a personal articles insurance policy on your T42 through a real insurance company. Do a search through the forums here on insurance/extended warranties and read more that I and others have written on the subject.

    good luck

my warantee with IBM will cover al lthose spilsl and such you said are more liekly to happen :) otherwise it woulnd' tbe so crazy expensive! I hope it's worht it. It doens't cover theft tho. So far my Dell has been okay for 4 years of accidents but gone to service twice a year. IBM i'll be carrying on campus so I figured i'll buy the extra piece of mind. Insurance would ahve been cool but it doens't seem to cover canadians :(
oh and I called and they said I can cancle the DVD drive if i want but i'm waiting to decide....

i'm more worried about whether i should have waited for hte kxu :(

Question about the 9 cell battery. (This is the extended battery right?)

Anyway, is this 9 cell battery bigger than the standard one? I know the extended battery is just $50 more expensive than the standard one but dont know if it is slightly bigger like some extended batteries of different brands.

    Hi airwick,
thanks for posting the link, I did not know IBM did this.
I still don't think it's a good deal, basically your just buying insurance from IBM and it's more expensive and doe not all the coverage of a normal personal articles insurance policy. My coverage for $2300 on my T42 cost me about $37 USD per year, so 3 years is only about $120 USD and covers everything except an "act of war", so theft or just losing it would be covered. Plus if that ever happens I just get a check for the value of a brand new T42 of my model and I can use that money to buy any notebook I like, I'm not limited to the same model or make at all. If your thinkpad is say destroyed some how and IBM decides it's covered, they are not obligated to give you a new one, it can be a used one, factory refurb, or a notebook that is just returned from being leased.

Anyhow, I'm sure your going to love your new thinkpad, congratulations!

If you could point me to a Canadian equivalent company I'd be more than happy to explore that option but I haven't been able to find any comapnies willing to do that here :(

I think that the Thinkpad protection is still the way to go. I would much rather deal with IBM if the notebook is damaged or destroyed, than with a 3rd party insurance company. The insurance company is likely to ask a LOT of questions if there is a loss. I had a Dell with Complete Care (equivilent to Thinkpad protection) and the damage equated to a total loss, and they sent me a refurb. When I was unhappy with it, they sent me a brand new unit. Unfortunately I don't care for Dell, so I EBAY'd that replacement shortly after receiving it. The bottom line is that, even though it costs more, it is ZERO hassle dealing with accidental damage protection through a PC manufacturer. Very few questions asked. As of now, the only companies offering accidental damage coverage (that I know of) are: IBM, Dell, HP and SONY. Fujitsu offers expensive screen protection, but that is all that they cover, just the screen.

Yes, were in Canada did you find a deal like that?

you didn't get it from ibm.ca, did you? Because the basic config for the REU there is already at $2700.

    thanks.

    Well...
Thinkpad Protection doesn't cover theft, anyhow.
Also, if you told them you had a bad of "T42 parts" they wouldn't write you a check in any case.
All they are going to do is get you a replacement notebook that is equal or better than what you had.
After a couple years, it is always going to be better rather than equal.

meh I would have prefered insurane if I could find it affordably in Canada but it still haven't found any. I still have a week tho :p I hope when they replace it the replacement has all the specification equal or better. I don't want some kind of entry level system xga screen later on just ecause it has a faster cpu and more ram

Doleco and IR0NMAN It's epp pricing. You need to be a shareholder, know a employee or be an employee. sorry can't help you with that.
