Hi guys,
I really appreciate all the views I recieved on my earlier thread regd. my purchase of R61 yesterday.
Of course, I haven't bought it yet, and am looking forward to the 4th of July offers.
I have still got one more thing left to decide, which I was not thinking yesterday.
What are your thoughts on Fingerprint Reader? How useful is it? Other than logging onto the computer, does it help out in logging onto various websites which we use daily (let's say yahoo mail, etc.)? Let me know of its uses thinking in the point of view of a home user. Also, for its price of 30 bucks.
Awaiting for the flood of ur responses.

Why couldn't you just post this in your last thread? And to answer your question, it isn't worth the money. Typing is perfectly fine.

I didn't actually get u from those last two sentences. -
He means it's not that much more work to type in a password.
It's actually pretty good, not real buggy or anything, more than 90% of your swipes will be good, ymmv. Sometimes if your finger is too dry or too moist you have to run it twice, or if you go too fast or slow.
I tried to justify getting it again, but even costing under thirty bucks, johnny's logic prevailed- if it's just a matter of convenience, a password is just as easy. It's not like I have spies trying to hack my pw or anything at work while I'm in the can, so that I need that level of security, ymmv.
The only thing I'll say, unrelated to the function of the reader itself, is it'd be nice to have just to break up the right palmrest, take out some flex.
But my advice is, you're going R anyways for a reason. Might as well maximize your savings and skip the stuff that you don't need. Same price as wxga+ option, and you were even on the fence about that. Resolution no brainer, fingerprint, eh. People won't admit it, but it's kind of a bragging thing too imo.
I had it, liked it, skipped it this time around. -
I got you Leon. Well understood. And I was surprised by Lenovo's July 4th offer.
Added 30 bucks to the price of laptop, and gave free upgrade to Intel 4965AGN chip.
I was not impressed by the way though. Have to go with the Intel chip now. -
people tend to forget their passwords because of the fingerprint reader. unless most computers in the world use the scanner, i wouldn't dive in just yet. It would just make things harder for you if you use another computer and look for the scanner then say "eff, what was my password again?"

Here is the page, I am talking about. -
Wow. Whoever waited for this "deal" can shoot themselves in the foot. Rabbit's foot.

Are you guys saying that Lenovo doesn't offer any shorter-term (as in 3 day blow-out sales etc) offers/discounts/sales/promotions?
I'm not real familiar with the company.
The memorial day sale looked pretty good and judging by the hype, the 4th of July should be even better.
So where is it? -

Back to the topic at hand: I love it. I was surprised to find that the fingerprint reader can be used to login to websites. It nicely integrates with the Thinkvantage security. I would highly recommend it.

I'd rather have Atheros, and now you can't.
Anyhow, cost was an issue, so I dropped the reader on my T61. It's no necessity, but nice to have if it had been cheaper.
