Should I disable all thinkvantage software except for power manager and active protection? My vista boot is so slow and I need to make it faster. Also, is client security systems provide any benefit to a normal user? Thanks

What laptop do you have?

I have a T61
-
- In Vista's Start Search type msconfig & hit the [Enter] key on your keyboard
- Once System Configuration has started, select the Boot tab and click the Advanced Options button
- In the BOOT Advanced Options dialog, check the "Number of processors" check box, and choose 2 (or 4 if you have quad core) for the number of processors. -
That number of processors bit is a common misconception. Vista automatically uses as many cores/processors as you have. That check box just forces it to a given number. http://winhlp.com/node/150
You might find this interesting, though. http://lifehacker.com/399766/microsofts-advice-on-how-to-speed-up-vista -
