Anybody here play FarCry? I can't get the mouse to work. It works fine in the demo, and it works fine in the full version except when actually playing the game, then it's not responsive. Ideas?

What machine are you using? What ThinkPad? You may have better luck with this topic in the Software/Hardware forum.

T60 2007-7ju, though I got it figured out. Apparently it's a glitch in the Patch 1.4 that you have to select default contrls once to get it to work.

How does the game run on that machine btw?

Good to hear you found a solution.

The CPU and GPU are fine (can run with graphics on high), but I need more ram because it keeps going to the page file (I think since the X1400 is pulling 384mb from my ram in addition to its 512, 1gb leaves me with too little ram). If I knew then what I know now about dual channel (i.e. that I can't just buy a second stick from crucial, they have to be the same brand), I would have gotten 2gb from Lenovo.

For fun, I decided to yank out my ethernet cable and turn off all the junk my school makes us run to use the internet - FarCry ran fine, so I guess I'm very close to having enough ram.

I don't believe it has to be the exact same manufacturer of RAM (to dual channel) just the same type of RAM, size and amt of pins. Look into it.

Looking into it about 80% of people say the exact same ram including manufacturer.

Well give Lenovo a call, tell them your model number, and ask how much a stick of RAM will cost.

They want $200. I just opened it up, found the part number, and found a similar stick on Ebay (2 more days till auction ends...Ugh, I want it now!).

Well, being Ebay I don't know yet, but typical ram prices are about $60 cheaper (from say Crucial) than from Lenovo for 1gb.

This is not unversally true. See my post in this thread (second page). Lenovo offers a 1 GB RAM upgrade for a ThinkPad R60 for $100, while the same amount of RAM costs $150 at Crucial.

I meant for people in my situation: people who already own their laptop.

I bought the laptop under EPP, and since there are only 25 EPP purchases a year, I don't want to use up one of his purchases for EPP, and IIRC the sales rep I spoke with only works with EPP.

IIRC? If you would have purchased the piece then, would have been included as one purchase? How many laptops can you buy in a single 'purchase'?

IIRC - if I recall correctly.

Yeah I think if I had ordered the piece then it would have been one purchase (assuming I wanted it pre-installed in the computer I think), but I didn't think I needed it then. As far as the number of laptops in a single purchase - 1. Basically, 25 computer units per year.

I see. Are you going to go ahead with eBay, or call and buy it independed of the EPP. Order one on your own, see what price they can give.

I'm going to go with eBay, if I win the bid.

I ended up winning it for $76.10. Assuming it works as advertised, I'd say that was a pretty good price.

I'd agree, not a bad price indeed. Is that new RAM? 1 year warranty?

Well no, but its the same part number. If I wanted warranty I'd sell what I got and get 2 sticks of crucial.
