    Hi all,

    Thanks for all your informative and fun inputs. I am set on getting a T43. I was just wondering if the fan utility program will take care the overzealous fan problem completely? Is there a setting that will allow me to choose a specific temperature for the fan to turn on? I still want the fan to run occasionally when the laptop gets too hot.

    Yup, the fan contron utility allows you to set any number of temperature thresholds you want, and associate each one with a certain fan level.

    For example, here are my settings:

    Level=47 0
    Level=50 3
    Level=55 4
    Level=60 128 (switches fan to BIOS control)

    So the fan runs at level 3 when the temperature reaches 50C, at level 4 when the temperature reaches 55C, and switches over to BIOS control when the temperature reaches 60C. If the temperature drops to 47C, the fan turns off.

    The fan utility is brilliant! It has justified my investement in the thinkpad - the only reason I didn't like it was the fan noise. Now I have a perfect laptop!

    I'm not registered over at the thinkpads.com forum so i'll post it here for now.

    I got my R52 yesterday (took a week for it to get delivered after I'd placed the order). The fan utility works great on a R52 1846 model.
