Hello guys, I am really close to buying a Thinkpad T42 but two things are holding me back:
1. Arrival of the T43, which could drop the price of the T42, or maybe I would choose the T43
2. Fan Noise.
I am upgrading from a Sony NVR-23 and its fan noise was pretty annoying at times. What is the overall fan performance?
Thanks and take it easy!

The fan on my T41 almost never comes on.

On the T42 there is no fan noise, it is very very quiet when it does run. Mine does not even come on that much.

This is off topic, but I thought it was pretty funny that you are going from the nvr23 to an ibm. I am actually doing the same exact thing!

Had a t42p for about two weeks now. It is VERY quiet. The fan puffs once when I first turn it on after that its almost silent.

Have a 15" t42p for 3 wks. It is quiet. I returned a sony vaio P4 earlier due to loudness. But I guess most P4's are noisy.

I will echo Jack's comment. On my T42, when the fan does occasionally come on, it is very quite. Once the fan is on, the sounds blends into the background white noise.
