Call Lenovo then and explain to them your problem, you could get a free replacement fan, but it's weird it has failed so soon. I've a Thinkpad A22e still with the original fan back in 2001 when I bought it.

Sounds like the fan is busted. I think it happened to my gf's T42. Fan failed and with the fan error on startup. It won't boot as well.

I've also recently changed my T42 fan. It started screeching and died eventually. However, I could still boot it up and there wasn't any error on startup. So different symptoms. But do call Lenovo.

This happened to my X61 after my system board got serviced. Simply press Esc button when the "Fan error" comes up and it will continue to load windows. In my case, the computer still operated fine without overheating.

does the fan works? if it doesn't, it's going to kill your processor.

you could still operate a normal Thinkpad without the fan running, considering you don't have a discrete GPU, although it's not recommended.
