I have failed to clean install the T500 5 times now and now i think my computer is messed up somehow. I am currently running on factory settings and the temperatures have gone up. Before, temperatures (from CPUID) for ACPI were usually 35-45C and Intel Core 2 Duo was usually 33-39C. and my harddrive was below 30. Now my temperatures for all have gone up about 8 C. ANd when I put my hand underneath the laptop I can feel it warmth. Also that when I intially start the compute (boot up) I get temperatures of 50 C for the ACPI and 42+ C for CPU, Hardrive stays the same. I am NOt running on ATI but Intergrated. What wrong?

Wait, you're saying you feel the installation failed because of temperature increases?

So you have managed to reinstall your operating system, but the temperatures are higher than they used to be? If so, it could be as a result of not having all the drivers and software installed that would optimize the heat.

Thats not the problem because after every failure I would reinstall back to Factory settings. But this time (5th) time I reinstalled it the temperatures are a little bit higher. I can even feel its warmth.

are you doing the installations continuously. give it some rest. install all the patches and let it settle down.

then again my t500 got hotter after my first clean installation, but i installed 3 operating systems in a stretch, it almost burnt my lap. now it is all fine

What process is taking up so much CPU? That last image link is broken.

I think if you can answer Arkis question you will know why your computer is running hotter: 70% is way too much for an idling computer.

My T500 is somewhat sensitive (in a heat sense) to CPU usage. If I load up a web page that has lots of Flash animiations the CPU fan will start and blow warmer air - note that this is still very unnoticable. Task Manager shows a constant usage of at least 20% CPU (or more). Closing the web page which has the flash animations will make the CPU sit at almost 0% again.

(the Flash problem can be solved easily if you are running a 64 bit operating system because as far as I know Flash does not run in 64 bit IE for example).

I found that using the Lenovo Power Manager helps keep noise and heat to the level you want (I also need it for the switchable graphics).

But concerning your original question did you follow the guides you can find in this forum to do the reinstalls? And is the only reason why you say the clean install failed that there is a raise in temperature?

Why not simply go into the "Processes" tab of the Task Manager, sort by CPU in descending order, and look at what's using up your processor?

I should think that after so many clean installs, it's obvious that the problem is hardware related. Try cleaning out the fans.

    Its known as system Idle.

And its not hardware because Lenovo told me to system hardware check and everything turned out fine.

System Idle is fine, it should be at 99% if you're not actively using any other programs. The CPU can't just stop 'talking' to the system, so the system invokes the idle command to 'keep it busy' so to speak. However, it's not in any way a heavy-load instensive program, so it should not increase temps in any way (hence idle-temps).

Something's not right either with other programs you have running or optimizations that are not running.

It's not at 99% its the opposite. It's usually at a low number. For example I was downloading OPen Office and the temps shoot up 8 C. MY CPU idle becomes 77 and fluxates to 33. constantly. Does it seem normal to take that much CPU to download the most simple writing program?

Apparenttly there is some software causing the CPU high utilization which the temps are reasonable OK. You could try some undervolting on the CPU to reduce temps but is unlikely that the reinstallation of the OS was the culprit of those temps.

What specific process is taking up the most CPU during these spikes?
