I try your suggestion but still no good new. My laptop is T400, currently I have the newest BIOS ver 3.19, and I downgrade to your swap key BIOS ver 3.12, the keys not swap. I try severer times including reupgrade to ver 3.19 and redowngrade to your ver 3.12, run it directly or by using your flash.bat file, but it still not swap.

Any suggestion you may have, I’ll appreciate that.

Try to flash my BIOS (ver 3.12) using flash.bat.
Then download "Universal BIOS Backup Toolkit" from here, make a dump of your current BIOS and send it to me (see here email address). Also send me "winuptp.log" file which will be created during BIOS update.

    Hello!

Just got new T500 (i know, its not new model, but brand new machine :p) and downgraded latest bios to yours provided on first page - 3.13.

Flashing went OK, but I have something else in bios and its not Ctrl/Fn swap:

And this icon is new in taskbar:

Did I mess something? After reboot I briefly saw some messages about table mismatch, but dunno what was exactly.

Also, I'll probably patch with zander's patch as you suggested in post #123 as I plan to replace 5100 with 4695agn and use 3rd antenna

Laptop is working as normal. Latest bios on lenovo site is 3.14-1.06 from 2010/06/15.

Don't worry, everything is OK. "Fn key lock" has nothing to do with my CTRL-FN swap. You may disable "Fn key lock" in BIOS setup if you don't need it.

    Hello!

Unfortunatelly this is still not working for me :(

    Flashed -- no change
    Ran flash.bat -- no change

Just to be sure -- this bios hack enables ctrl/fn swap directly, there is no bios option like in newer models?

    Thanks for your effort,
    b.

You are absolutely right. CTRL-FN patch swaps keys directly.

Try to make the complete reset of Embedded Controller:

    - Turn off your notebook.
    - Unplug the power cord.
    - Remove the battery from the laptop.
    - Press the Power button and hold it within 10 seconds.
    - Insert the battery back.
    - Plug the power cord.
    - Turn on your machine and check CTRL-FN swap.

Cases like yours are very difficult to solve by forum discussion. I don't know why you can't get CTRL-FN swap whereas other T500 owners simply flash the patch and get FN/CTRL swapped. If I had your T500 I would probably resolve this issue but it's very difficult to make a correct diagnosis via internet.

maybe i'm retarded but I have no clue of how to change the Y530 bios. Every other one I've done had a bios utility on the website but Y530 has never had a bios update

    Hello.
Just wondering if you might be able to patch the Lenovo N200 (type 0769) bios?
Direct link to the bios download, v3.05.
    Btw, it's a Phoenix bios, and I'm running Win7 AMD64.
(Link to the Drivers and software page for N200)

You can find the patched BIOS on the first page. Be aware: lenovo provides BIOS update which is flashable under 32-bit Windows only. You have two options:

    - Either install 32-bit system on another partition
    - Or use winphlash64.exe (Windows 64-bit) or phalsh16.exe (DOS) at your own risk.

I did option three - made an BartPE bootable CD and used that to flash the bios.
The patched bios worked like a charm!

Btw. one possible solution to the problem that this forum fsckes up links, is to just put the download link after the model name, like in this example:

As you can see, the first mention of the word Lenovo and the modelnumber G550 is autolinked, and would've fscked up the links if they weren't placed after the model name.
(PS! the links in my example only points to a 404 error message)

Thanks for the solution. I thought of something like this when several persons wrote here about impossibility to download the patch. But everything became OK after adding the note about spoiled links. So I decided not to change the links.

Thanks a ton Middleton for providing such a patch. I am waiting to flash my L410 with this.

However, as new BIOS versions come out, I'd like to have them updated and still keep this buttons swaped.

I have binary editor and I have experience in creating patches / hex editing. If this patch is a simple one, could you please tell me which file(s) and the offset(s) where the changes are to be done? If that's going to be easy to find in future bios versions, I like to do it myself.

( I understand the risk involved and I take 100% responsibility if my laptop doesn't boot up after flashing)

    Thanks Again,
    Max

The patch for L410 is very simple. For BIOS version 1.37-1.21 you need to swap two bytes (0x81 and 0x97) at offsets 0x6A7E and 0x6A99 in file $0A6J000.FL1.
If you have experience in creating patches / hex editing, then you can easily find these bytes in new BIOS versions (keyboard codes should be absolutely the same).

    @Middleton:

I loaded BIOS version 1.40 in a hex editor and found these key codes, they seem to be in different offsets in this version, but the delta between them is the same as the difference between the offsets that you mentioned, just 1B (27) difference between them in both cases.

    They are currently at

    0x6A90 - 0x81
    0x6AAB - 0x97

I'm yet to do the flashing with the patched BIOS file. Please alert me if you sense something which I might be doing terribly wrong here.

    Thanks!

    UPDATE:

I checked the key code sequence in version 1.39 as well, and made sure that it was indeed the key codes I was looking at, and flashed the BIOS with my patched 1.40.

It works perfectly fine!! Thank you very much Middleton for your kind help!

    Hi,

i have a new lenovo u350 but the fan runs all the time. windows 7 64bit is new installed and i tried different programs to control the fan but onldy "s10fancrtl" was able to switch it from loud to very loud.

i think a bios update is nesessary but i think there will be no one from lenovo...

middleton, are you able to update the u350 bios so you can switch the fan shutoff in the bios?

    regards

It's impossible at the moment. If you want to know why, then see my answers to jtousek starting from this post.
I'm able to create a BIOS patch for changing fan behavior. Just for your information: I already made such a patch for IdeaPad Y450. But I can't do anything without the official U350 BIOS.

I already have a U350 BIOS dump. The problem is to flash it back. Information about flash memory chips and flashing procedure is kept in the official BIOS update only. You can't flash BIOS without this information.

    Hello !

I have installed in my Thinkpad R61i. TYPE 7650-DTC S/N L3-Y3758 PRODUCT ID: 7650-DTC , Intel® Wireless WiFi Link 4965AGN and have received an error 1802 : unauthorized network card is plugged in....

    no1802.com does not help.

Whether there is a bios update that would allow to overcome the error 1802 ?

Or can there are any other ways for correction of this error ?

    Thanks.

You chose wrong thread for your question. Email me in Russian (see address in this post).

To all: If you need to remove wireless white list from BIOS, then send request to forums.mydigitallife.info but first google all information about your problem, maybe someone already solved it.

hello middleton, i'm not very good with computers but i was wondering if this is updated up to date. I got my y460 a week ago and the FN CTRl is PISSING ME OFF. I'm scared to do this if it's not supported, jsut reply to this if it supports bios version 27CN59WW which is dated 6/30/10

At the moment the latest BIOS for Y460 which you can download from lenovo's web site is 27CN58WW. Actually BIOS update files for Y460 and Y560 were always the same. I don't know why lenovo placed 59 version for Y560 and didn't do that for Y460.
You can either flash my patch (this will downgrade your BIOS to 58 version) or wait until 59 version will be available for downloading from official lenovo's site.

Unfortunately I can't patch BIOS for G460 & G560 because their hardware differs from other lenovo laptops.

Theoretically it's possible to create X200T patch. I hope I'll be able to find free time for this work in the next month. Just watch this thread.

First of all, thanks this is really great work, although I can't use it because I've got a G560.
Could you imagine that it is possible for me to flash one of the other BIOS update to get a working G560 or would this in every case crush the BIOS?
I just need this switch so badly :(
