I've observed a very weird problem on my new T500...not sure if it existed before or maybe I just didn't notice it...Problem:

When I hit FN+F3 to turn off just the lcd screen, it seems to disconnect me from AIM and disables the internet radio I'm listening to through IE8. Turning back on the screen (merely just moving my mouse around) I see that AIM is no longer signed in on the taskbar (disconnected) and the internet radio isn't playing anymore.

I've never experienced anything like this before on my previous T61p. I like to turn off my lcd screen when I'm doing work...while leaving the computer on to receive IMs, emails, and listen to internet radio.

The problem also seems to occur when the lcd screen automatically turns off by itself after 10minutes (time set in power manager).

For what though? An option that disconnects my AIM/Internet Radio when screen is off? lol

Because the internet continues to work (downloads, etc. still continue) when the screen turns off...but for some odd reason my internet radio/AIM disconnects instantaneously when I hit FN+F3....

I had a similar problem with my T500. When the screen would go blank from idling (after about 15 minutes), winamp based streaming audio would just stop playing. Downloads, however, were not affected. But this just happened when connected using a wired network connection. When I was using wireless, it did not happen. I also used Vista at that time.

But sometime in the summer I moved to a new place and now I am using a wireless connection all the time, so I did not bother looking at this issue any further, as I am not affected any longer.

weird.....^I think you may be right because when I'm in the library using wifi, the problem does not occur.

Some sort of setting on the wired network connection??

Unfortunately, my apartment's cable service depreciates A LOT over wifi and I prefer wired connection....this is annoying

Thats the strangest thing. However, i can say with a fair amount of certainly that it does seem like it is an issue related to the Lenovo power management software. I say this because I do not experience similar behavior and I do not have the Lenovo Power Management software installed. It may also be because I have a U110 and the Ideapad behave differently than the Thinkpads, but part of me seriously doubts that.

I remember looking through the wired drivers settings pages, but finding nothing. Also, because for me only some of the applications were affected, I am not sure it would be a driver thing.

Well...the thing is I believe the T500 needs to have the Lenovo Power Management installed in order to use the switchable ATI graphics, which complicates the whole matter of isolating the problem to find the source of this weird bug.
