    We ought to create a FAQ and compile a list of our favorite/essential accessories to help newbies along. Here are some of my personal faves in no particular order:

    ProtecT Keyboard/Screen Protectors
    <http://www.protectcovers.com/>
    Now I can eat and drink and not worry about dandruff falling in between the keyboard and TouchPad openings. Screen protector does not add noticeable glare if viewed from a 90 degree angle. TouchPad loses sensitivity with keyboard protector, increase mouse sensitivity accordingly.

    Kensington MicroSaver Guaranteed Notebook Replacement
    <http://www.kensington.com/html/2221.html>
    They offer up to a $1500.00 replacement guarantee. Is a step up from the standard IBM MicroSaver offering.

    Brenthaven Slim/Deluxe Slim/Toploader

    Solid shoulder bag. Reminds me a lot of the T42 itself: It doesn't have the most accessory pockets and is not the most rugged, but is a nice overall compromise. Internal sleeve is removeable and perfectly sized for backpack carry.

    Razer eXactMat

    A real mouse...er...gaming pad for real players. Slim enough to fit in most cases, too wide for some. Excellent tracking characteristics. I also use the awesome Razer Diamondback, a medium-sized corded optical mouse.

    Lindy USB 2.0 External 2.5" Drive Enclosure

    Excellent build quality and brand name recognition propel this external 2.5" enclosure up my list of favorite/essential accessories. Superior in fit and finish to the Vantec NexStar, which I also own. A USB 2.0/FireWire combo version is also available.

    Sony External USB 1.1 FDD Ultra Slim Portable

    For those pesky BIOS and firmware updates and sneaker net situations. If you are going to go with an external USB floppy, you might as well go with the best in the biz: Sony. A USB 2.0 version with an integrated Memory Stick slot is also available.

    IBM T42 2378-FZU
    Intel Pentium M 755 2.0 GHz
    2048 MB Corsair System Select
    High Capacity Li-Ion Battery
    Hitachi Travelstar 7K60
    Audigy 2 ZS Notebook
