I bought T60p several weeks ago and returned because of consistent high-speed fan (3500rpm all the time) and high-pitched fan noise (defective fan assembly). I still want to buy think pad and a little bit careful for this time.
Please drop some words for my concern if you use same system.
My main concern: fan speed and any noise related to fan (like high-pitched, very irregularly).
    System spec: 8743-CTO, T7200 2.0, ATI X1400, WSXGA+, 160G HDD.
    Thanks in advance.

I also had almost the same problem you described with my T60 15.4 WS. My specs were similar, T7200, ATI X1400, 120G HD. I used the tpFanControl utility to quiet the fan noise but then I heard this high pitched type of whine when the fan was moving slower. I'm not sure if this was from the fan or the C2D processor. I have heard that the C2D processor can emmit a high pitch sound while in a low power state. I also had this C2D problem with a Dell D820 I owned. I returned my T60 15.4 and recently ordered a T60p 15' w/Flexview from the Lenovo Outlet. This one has the older Core Duo T2500 (not Core 2 Duo) and different ATI graphics card so I'm hoping I won't have the same fan/high pitch noise issue. Like I said, the fan is not a problem because all you have to do it use the tpFanControl to fix it, as long as you don't get the high pitch noise once the fan slows down.

I have the same config except for I have the 7200 RPM Seagate Momentus 7200.1 100 GB HDD. The fan rarely ever comes on.
