A few months ago, I had a failed BIOS update which left my Thinkpad unable to boot. LED's would turn on but that was it- no display or error beeps of any kind and no BIOS.
After finals ended for me last week I had a chance to send my Thinkpad in to the Lenovo warranty center in Glasgow from where I was staying in London.
I received an email from them when they had received the Thinkpad stating it would take 5 to 6 business days to repair. It took them exactly 6 days, not including the weekend. Once they had completed repair on it, they emailed me again with a tracking number letting me know that it would be shipped overnight back to me. I finally got it back this morning and I'm really thankful the repair center did such a great job. I was worried that there would be dust and scratches or other cosmetic damage to the body but none of that seems to be the case.
Even the shipping was really well done, and the center used a much bigger box than I had supplied, with much better insulation and packing that prevented any shifting of the Thinkpad within the box, along with an invoice detailing the work which had been done. In this case, it was a system board replacement.
Taking the laptop out of the box, I looked around for scratches and couldn't find a single one. I opened the lid expecting dust but instead found that they had actually cleaned my screen for me. That was a really nice surprise.
Finally, I turned it on and it booted back up perfectly as if nothing had ever happened.
I have to say, best warranty experience I've ever had with a laptop company. Hope everyone else is just as lucky.

Nice to hear a positive review, thanks!

FYI,
I had the screen replaced on my ThinkPad T61p. I was very happy when I called the customer support center to get someone in the USA.
They shipped me a shipping box. I dropped my machine into the box with the repair instructions and had it back a couple of days later.
My wife was shocked they got it back to us so fast. Me too. No worries for future repairs. -
Great to hear these stories.
Maybe a warranty upgrade should be what Santa ought to leave this year... -
I've been waiting to hear your experiences from the failed BIOS flash - great to hear that it's been very positive. Thanks for sharing

We run a mixed series of machines at work, but from Lenovo, we generally have the T-series (60, 61, 500's) at work, and whenever we have warranty issues, Lenovo has always been great. There have been a few hiccups, but the positive experiences vastly outweigh the negative.

I'm glad you had a positive experience. I've always been satisfied as well and am surprised when I read about nightmare stories.

Glad to hear it! It truly is nice to hear good things from time to time when its usually negative posts.

2 weeks ago, I noticed one of the keys on my keyboard (letter a) was a little sticky/loose. I called lenovo and told them this. I didnt even get put on hold. The tech said they could either send me a keyboard and I install it myself or I could send them my entire laptop and they do it. I said just send the keyboard. This was around 3pm on wednesday. 9:15am Thursday morning my new keyboard arrived.
Shipping new computers is quite slow but their support seems great (at least the one time I used it). -

So you couldn't fix your thinkpad. Too bad, I would have liked to know what was the correct procedure for the BIOS override.
At least everything's working fine now, that's the most important
Extremely Satisfied with Lenovo Warranty Repair
