One aspect I've always questioned about the y500 is the inclusion of space for a second mSATA drive. Why Lenovo would actually have the space for such a drive and not use it is beyond me. The point of this thread is not to question Lenovo however, but to ask if anyone has made use of this slot. Is it even possible to add a mSATA (or M.2) connector to this slot?

There's no physical connector, just some solder traces (at least on the y500). So you could solder one on but I would bet there's no connection to the south-brigde as well.

I bought a M.2 connector, but it turns out that it was the wrong one, I got the one with the M key, you need to get the one with the B key, check this picture for understanding the keys:

This is the slot that I have on my Y510p:

I hope that someone can take a picture of the upper and lower parts of the motherboard where the M.2 SSD connector is to check whether it will work if I actually buy the right one and solder it(I had to buy it from the US, its price is less than $2 but shipping is for around $30, and I already got a 128GB NGFF SSD D: ) so I want to be on the safe side :)
