My thinkpad R50 doesn't have firewire (IEE1394) port and I would like to have one to download my videos from handycam.
Please suggest me what should I do, is there any external firewire port (connected to USB) or internal one?
Thanks

You can get a PCMCIA card with FireWire ports. That's probably the best option.

Is it internal or external?

It plugs into the PCMCIA slot (usually on the back of the laptop). It is sort of half-external, half-internal. External, in the sense that you don't need to open or unscrew anything. Internal in the way that most of the card will be hidden inside the slot and only a small part of it will be visible. It also feels like an integral part of the laptop once you install, and with the latest operating systems, it's fully plug-n-play, just like USB.
