What in the world happened here? I thought I started this thread? And I thought I posted:
"I bought a monitor (HP ZR2240w) and have hooked it up to my X201's VGA port (also tried on my T60p). The computer knows it has a monitor attached to it, and the monitor apparently knows too because if I unplug one end of the cable I get a message on the monitor to "check video cable," but it says it gets no signal and doesn't display anything. I feel like there must be some setting I'm forgetting. Anybody have any ideas?"

Is the notebook display on? Try Windows Key + P which opens the a popup where you can chose the external display. If you don't see anything try hitting Windows Key + three times P (i.e. hold Windows key down, hit "P" three times, release Windows Key).
