To all X200 series owners with external screens ... is there a nice matte screen with good inbuilt speakers that is recommended ? Also for those with an ultrabase are the speakers on there good enough to watch a movie or music ?

the speaker is pretty loud on the ultrabase, but for movie you still probably want to use set of speakers

if you want audiophile sound quality then you should definitely consider external speakers.

The internal speakers on the external screen or ultrabase is just barely adequate in my opinion, but no much bass or clarity for those HD movies you may want to watch. In regards to music, if you don't care about sound clarity then they are adequate, but if you want an hair raising experience, then you should stay away.

There are plenty of external displays with built in speakers (I've used one of these). However, I wouldn't really call the speakers 'good'. There are simply too many design constraints that make it difficult to produce high quality integrated speakers.

Yes I had a look you may be right ... May have to get screen + speakers. I dont think I need an ultrabase at all; just a screen + speakers. Thanks

without the ultrabase, you have to unplug and replug 3 usb (mouse, keyboard and printer), vga (external monitor) and power cord and headphone jack if you are planning on an external speaker. And not to mention no dvd reader
