It's funny that long after my Thinkpad warranty expired (last summer), I repeatedly received emails from Lenovo that said my warranty "will expire soon", and asked me to renew warranty.

Now I'm interested to know (not because they sent me those emails):

If the warranty that comes with your purchase of the thinkpad is 1 year, and you want to extend the warranty shortly before the 1 yr warranty expires, would you pay the same amount as if you had bought the longer warranty at the time of the purchase of your thinkpad? Or do you have to pay more?

It's quite expensive. I don't have the link off the top of my head. Your better off going without if you're willing to do it yourself because used parts are relatively inexpensive.

One of the nice things about Lenovo is that if you have a problem with it there are these forums at notebookreview.com and those on the lenovo support site can be very helpful. If your interested in researching a problem yourself you probably don't need a warrantee longer than 1 year.

When I was in school I paid $200 Canadian to increase the warantee of my X40 from 1year to 3year. It gave me some piece of mind at the time but I never had reason to use it. I would of been better off putting that money towards saving for my next notebook. Maybe I wouldn't be using my 4year old X40 if I'd done that. Ohwell, I'll update next year....maybe.
