    Hey all,

So I just ordered a new T410 and it comes with the 1 year warranty. This will be my first Thinkpad and I was wondering whether I should upgrade my warranty or not. I have read quite a few threads and I hear that it could be useful in the coming years.

Does anyone have any stories where it was very useful and worth the money?

If I do upgrade, what warranty would you recommend?

Also, does anyone know where I can get a list of the extended warranties and their prices? I have looked on the website but it seems that I have to register my laptop before it shows me anything (but it is still being made :p)

    Thanks!

If you applied some coupons at checkout, call them ASAP to see if you can add extended warranty to your order with the coupons applied or cancel it without additional charges.

Woah, that important huh? I thought Thinkpads were meant to be durable...

They are, but you never know...

Plus, if you're not careful, like me, you would do VERY bad things to your laptop that even Thinkpads would die (for a few days till I cleaned it). Accidental coverage covers these things. :D
    (Too bad I didn't get it :( )

They are more durable than most laptops out there. But if you turn out to be very unlucky then you might want to trade some extra dough for an extra peace of mind. Chances of a main component failing are very slim.

I got extended onsite warranty, albeit I purchased it nearing the end of the standard warranty. Lo and behold, I had to call tech support on a faulty VGA out on the very day my standard warranty was running out. Thanks to the extended onsite warranty, I got tech support to show up within a day and replace the systemboard. I looked around for the price of the system board on the net and it was about 1.5x to 2.0x what I paid for a 3 year warranty extension. So, I am already ahead! My 2 cents - go for it!

Part of the benefit of a good laptop brand is the warranty support. Just because a laptop is durable does not mean it will not potentially face an expensive issue down the line. It is a laptop. Components are more likely to go bad vs a desktop system that NEVER moves (or very rarely).

Call now is just advice because you might save money on the warranty if you include it in your current order.

You have 30 days to upgrade if you want accidental protection. And you until your warranty is up (1 year) to just upgrade regularly.

I recommend 2-3 years. Your credit card might add a year if it is a certain Visa or Amex. I have 3 years with Lenovo (depot) and 1 year extra from Amex essentially.

I have used my warranty to get replacement rubber feet, screw set.
I had a motherboard replaced after 1.25 years because my ethernet port went bad. I was very happy with the warranty repair service.
