I recently bought a usb 3.0 express card for my x220 but it doesn't seem to be detected. Here is the link to the card:

</title>< name="description" content="Express Card Expresscard 54mm to USB 3.0x2 Port Adapter in Computers Networking , Computer Components , Interface Cards, Controllers , USB Cards |eBay">< name="keywords" content="Express Card Expresscard

It doesn't show up in the device manager either. Anything i'm doing wrong?

    Cheers.

Edit: NVM seems to work now, had to enable the expresscard port from the bios!!

Unfortunately I don't think this product works. Even after updating the drivers, my trackpad gets jumpy once I connect a USB device to this card, and the device itself doesnt get recognized in windows.

Is there any known working USB 3.0 card? I didn't want to pay so much more for the i7 just for the usb 3.0 support

It is working on many machines. It must be NEC chip inside, isn't it?

I don't see the time your first post was edited so is it working or not?
perhaps just this one is faulty. eBay buyer protection is your friend

    Thanks for your response.

My first problem was simple, I just had to enable the express card via the bios. So now it detects the card, but any usb device i connect to it is not recognized. So far I've tried a sandisk flashdrive and the sansa clip mp3 player

it is offtopic but sansa players are cr@p. My sister had one and it was faulty. Another newere version one still works which surprises me.

Go to start and type USB 3.0. Will you see USB 3.0 host controller utility?

Anyway if you do the start it. You should see your firmware and driver version.
    tell me both.

    Edit. PM me if necessary

EDIT This is source of drivers and firmware your driver I guess must be on the top 2.1.25 and firmware is 3.0.2.8.0.8 (Windows 32 & 64bits) use single 1 but not combo which has 2 firmwares 3 and 4 together. And usinstall old driver before installing new one! I didn't try this driver because older one (2.0.34) works fine for me.

The utility reports Renesas Electronics USB 3.0 Host Controller driver version 2.1.25.0 Firmware: 4015.
"Disable USB 3.0 power management features" is unchecked.

After connecting it and removing it a dozen times, It actually worked..once. Recognized my clip and my usb stick. I removed the card and tried again and I'm again having no luck. My touchpad gets jumpy and it doesn't pick anything up. Rebooted and tried again, same thing. Not sure whats going on! :(

If I eject the device like I would a usb flash drive, It doesn't recognize it being disconnected the first time. I actually have to reconnect it and disconnect it twice for it to update.

OH! I had this thing once... but with PCMCIA to 2x USB 2.0 on ancient compaq presario 2700.

try to reboot without a card. then turn laptop off. Take away battery and push button for 5 seconds. then install card, then battery and then try to turn it on.

I got used that that OLD lappy doesn't like Sdcardreader and this PCMCIA card.

Looks like that either your expresscard port doesn't support hot plug or.... this card at all.

    EDIT\\\ Going sleep

    Update:

I uninstalled the drivers and installed 2.0.34 instead, and I seem to be having less issues. It'll still freeze up if I try to open the USB 3.0 host controller utility, but once I plug in the card it works! Not sure if it's consistant yet, and I have yet to try a usb 3.0 device, but using that specific driver might be the solution.

On a side note, it is a bit annoying that the expresscard doesn't lock in, or have a push button mechanism to pop out. I have to hold it in while I unplug a usb device to prevent it from popping out!

Maybe it is better to get a 34mm card with stabalizer?

ExpressCard 34/54 to USB3.0 Express Card Adapter: Amazon.co.uk: Electronics

    http://www.amazon.co.uk/Startech-ExpressCard-34mm-Stabilizer-Adapter/dp/B002GHTIRQ/ref=pd_cp_ce_4

The card I linked to has the FL1000 chipset, which is meant to be good to have.

Any recommendations for (or advice about) expresscards appreciated because I'm going to get one sooner or later. Really annoying that Lenovo started shipping the X220i with USB 3.0 a few weeks after I bought one!
