Having moved to the SL510 to enable me to test firewire under Win7 via an ExpressCard 34 in a 34mm slot, I'm very unhappy. I wonder if anyone has a technique to make this usable?

I've been using the card on Vista machines with a plastic adapter to bring it up to the 54mm slot size. It was always very wobbly and hard to keep in place. I had hoped that the smaller slot on the newer machine would grip the card like the older machines held pcmcia cards, but.....

When first inserting the card it usually bounces back and has to be pushed in again. This gives a warning about the drivers not having installed properly. Then it works, but plugging in the rather bulky firewire cable usually disconnects the Expresscard from the machine unless I use 3 hands to hold the cable, card and machine. Why on earth is it a hair-trigger push to connect, push to disconnect operation?
I thought it might be the card, so I purchased a usb3 ExpressCard adapter to try with my usb 2/3 HD. No better, in fact it disconnected when I moved the external HD about an inch on the desk during a file transfer.

When either card spontaneously disconnects, it seems to blow away the wifi, which has to be restarted. On 2 occasions, the disconnect has resulted in a BSOD.

As I say, has anyone found a technique for making these awful cards usable in the real world?

So far the machine has been great apart from this.
