So I have this empty Express Card slot compatible for 34 and 54 and I really wish that my Y510 had come with a media remote control. I searched and have only found 2 or 3 suitable but they have each their problems. One is Vista specific and is designed to control Windows Media Center and requires a USB IR receiver. Another is a bluetooth one but when the remote is inserted into the slot it sticks out too much. Finally I have come across HP ones that are exactly what I want....IR and no need for a USB toggle, its capable of controling whatever program is open (isn't WMC specific) and doesn't stick out.

Basically all I want is one that fits into the slot, doesn't require a USB receiver (BT or IR), comes with its own drivers that are compatible with my system and isn't specifically made for certain media players (WMC, etc).

I feel the HP ones are exactly what I am looking for but I dont know whether they would work with my system as it states it is only compatible with specific HP models. Does anyone know if it would work? Furthermore, does anyone else know of any other remotes that would work for me given my requirements? Thanks

    My specs:
    IdeaPad Y510 w/ Vista Ultimate
    Core 2 Duo T5750 @ 2.0Ghz
    320GB @ 5400
    2GB DDR2
    NVIDIA GeForce 8600M GT
    IR Receiver, BT, etc.

I had one of those HP notebooks with the media remote. Truth be told, I never used it. It was gimmicky, had bad range, and lacked customization options.

The HP notebooks have IR receivers built in with specialized drivers and a program to recognize these signals, so they likely won't work with other branded notebooks.
