3 month old W530 and getting a number of Error 64 events in the Event Viewer weekly relating to:

Certificate for local system with Thumbprint is about to expire or already expired

This traces to Lenovo when I look at local certificates, but no additional information.

Is it something of concern and/or can the certificate be updated? Appreciate any input.

Is the machine domain joined to an Active Directory forest?

No domain at all. Small home network with a NAS and another laptop sharing folders. That's it.

Good. That rules out any organizational certs.

Sounds like it's either the certs used with the fingerprint software, or the motherboard Secure Boot certs. I'm sure you'll have to dog into this further but a support call to Lenovo is probably in your future.

Thanks for the replies. So this seems no a common problem with a ready reply at hand. I may have to call support but have never had confidence in Lenovo support actually solving an issue. Especially if esoteric.

Lenovo should take care of their certs, I would be interested to hear what they say about this, please let us know.

Forgot to ask if you have tried updating the fingerprint software to the latest version if you don't already have it?

Finally got time to call them and Lenovo said this was a software issue and not covered under warranty and that I would likely have to pay for the call ! I convinced them this was their certificate they installed in the OS and they decided they would escalate. No one had any idea about certificates and my tech said he knows no one that looks in the event Viewer for errors!!

I expect a call next week and hopefully they can tell me how to renew or remove this. I did find out this certificate expired 6/2012 and I did not get the machine until 12/2012. Odd that it would have been there expired since day one. I'm very curious what its purpose was supposed to be.

You were able to identify the faulty cert and the software attempting to use it? Is it the fingerprint software?

I could identify the certificate by the Thumbprint (not to be confused with fingerprint) but no idea what it is used for.

Humidor snuck in there by accident. I have a few more informative screenshots, but no time to upload at the moment.

No prob. The expired cert is clearly a Lenovo issue.

That room with the humidor looks like a fun room. :D
