This is an expert question.

I am looking for trustworthy specs for a x200s with a 1280x800 non-LED screen. Some of you might say that there is no x200s with a 1280x800 screen but there is, e.g. in Germany. The models NS45XGE, NS45YGE, NS47FGE, NS472GE, NS473GE, NS45LGE, NS45RGE, NS47LGE, NS45EGE, NS45PGE, NS45NGE, NS45ZGE, NS45MGE, NS45QGE, etc. come with the well known x200 screen. Of course the 1440x900WXGA+ LED screen is also available.

    My questions:
    1. What is the difference in battery performance of the x200s with 1280 compared to the 1440 screen?
    2. What is the difference in weight with the different screens?
    3. Is the size of the notebook different?

Thank you for your help! TheSventinel

Have you seen the comparison photos linked by BlackBox in the x200 vs x200s thread? They show the different heat sink sizes and internal layouts.

1/2/3: Nobody knows at present. Here, in EU, it is still difficult to order X200s CCFL and almost impossible to get x200s LED.
See: http://www5.pc.ibm.com/europe/produ...kpad&series=ThinkPad+X+Series&epi=web_express and try to compare e.g. those two: http://www5.pc.ibm.com/europe/products.nsf/$wwwPartNumCompare/_NS23Axx?OpenDocument&compare=NR23Vxx

I hope the fact that I'm going to buy x200s with WXGA+ LED makes me an expert, doesn't it?

This time Lenovo confuses even the toughest nerds. I checked the Lenovo websites in the US, UK, Germany, Australia and Japan. They all give different configuration options and specs in terms of sizes, battery life and weight. It is easy in the states because for the x200s only the 1440 LED option is available.

Maybe I start ignoring the x200(s/t) palette and go for a x301?!

By the way: Why has the x200s LED 6-cell better battery life than the x301 6-cell with ULV processor?

    Cheers!

Why not to wait? X301 lacks ExpressCard slot and SDHC reader.

The x200s 6 cell battery is much bigger than the x301 6 cell battery. Going by cells is a bad idea. You want to look at WHr (Volts * Amp hours). The x300/301 uses a 6 cell battery rated at 10.8 V dc, 4.0 Ah or 43.2 WHr. The x200/x200s uses a 6 cell battery rated at 10.8 V, 5.2 Ah or 56.6 WHr. This is 30% more charge capacity despite identical cell count. Additionally, the slightler smaller screen and lack of an optical drive may improve efficiency than the x200s.

Back to the original question. I am not 100% sure on any of your questions, but I believe that the x200s with WXGA CCFL will site sqauerly between the x200 w/ WXGA CCFL and the x200s w/ WXGA+ LED. It will be a fraction of an inch thinner than the x200 (although you lose most of this benefit if you use anything but the 4 cell (14.4 V, 2.0 Ah = 28.8 WHr) battery. It will also get marginally better battery life than the x200 due to the low voltage processor. However, it will be thicker and get worse battery life than the x200s with LED screen.

If the LED is unavailable, I would recommend that you just get the x200 regular. The primary benefit of the x200s is the WXGA+ LED, and if you can't have that, I would recommend the x200. You will save money, get a 20% faster processor, and only suffer about 1 watt reduced efficiency, a couple of ounces of weight, and a fraction of an inch thickness.
