I think it is a great machine and is very cost effective. If I get a Thinkpad next time I am seriously considering the R series. Have you checked out this review?

I have been using my R500 for the past three months. I bought the laptop for the following reasons: cool, quiet and quality. I have returned hp laptops because they were burning my palms and the fans were too loud.

The R500 is very quiet and the palm rest is cool. This laptop has a displayport so i was able to connect laptop to my tv using a displayport to hdmi cable.

I would have prefer a dedicated video card but I don't play games and the heat and fan noise generated was not worth the pain.

I added a Liteon bluray external disc player just in case I wanted to play a Bluray movie on my tv.
